HPV and Meningitis ACWY Vaccination Offer

We are running a series of clinics offering lifesaving HPV and Meningitis ACWY vaccinations to patients aged 16 to 25 who may have missed their jabs at school.

HPV (Human Papillomavirus)

HPV vaccination is now offered in a quick, single injection in the upper arm and protects against genital warts, some mouth and throat cancers, and some other cancers of the genital areas and has reduced the numbers of deaths from cervical cancer by almost 80% since 1950.

HPV infection is common – more than 70% of unvaccinated people will get it and as it is present on the skin around the whole genital area, using condoms does not provide complete protection.

Meningitis ACWY

Meningitis is a thankfully rare but serious disease affecting the lining of the brain which can be life-changing, leading to amputations, hearing loss, brain damage and scarring. Older teenagers and young adults are at higher risk of infection and vaccination is safe and effective. The MenACYW vaccine will increase your protection against Meningitis C even if you had that vaccination as a child and will help to protect against other strains.

In the last week of July, we will be sending out invitations to book into vaccination clinics in August; the invites will be sent by text message and will include a self booking link allowing you to choose a convenient time to come to the surgery.
